Were the rear fender skirts I see on pickup trucks an option or were they made by an outside company to fit these trucks?
What do you guys think of these skirts?
Where could a pair be found and what do they go for?
Thanks

Press Kale was making this style skirts. Does he still? Had them on his own truck twenty five years ago.
The skirt in the photo could be Ford type as noted. They were a factory option and of course the aftermarket made thousands more sets. And they still do.
Agape makes nice quality skirts at a nice price. www.agapeautoparts.com

I 'think' BentMetal on this Forum may fabricate fender Skirts...

Well, I don't think much of em for a workin truck. Now if you're just showing it, that's another thing. However, when I show my ratty workin truck, there's always a crowd around it.

  • I have two pairs of new ones on hand. I believe they are for two different spans of years. They came with the original receipt from Press.
I'll go have a closer look if anyone cares.

The skirts pictured above are fiberglass. Anything I make is steel. I know the guy at 'agape' he talked to me about making skirts for him. We couldn't make the numbers work. Nice guy, I do mine a little different too. Press Kale doesn't make the skirts anymore because he passed down his patterns to me years ago. The skirts I make are basically the same as he made, with some minor improvements, with his advisement. But mostly the same, still made from his original templates. I also make a more original skirt for the guy who wants them the way they were. Like the '34-5 that were refered to above. Here is one of my skirts next to an original. Yes the handle is correct. You reach to the right, no matter what side of the car you are on in '34-5. The thirty-six they made them point to the rear of the car.

If anyone else has pictures of original skirts of any year, I'd like to see them. Not step-down, of course. :)

More on truck skirts. Press told me he only offered the truck skirt for a short time. Too many problems, primarily due to it's size and weight. I made them for a short time and came to the same conclusion. The truck skirt is different from the rest. For it to look right, the outside of the skirt follows the fender outline. The other skirts follow the wheel opening. That made the wire type retainers not really strong enough. I have made a couple of revised type of fasteners for these skirts. They are being used now, and I haven't heard anything negative yet. So, so far so good. I'd still like to think about it some more and make a few adjustments. I just don't have time. Too much other stuff to do.

The skirts that are made from the Press Kale patterns have a gentle curve. The ones pictured above are much more pronounced. Very different.

More skirt pics. I've also done some special order. The first picture is a truck skirt.
