That! Is a very nice looking car. Let's understand that any car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. If we did not bid on the car and buy it, then most would deem it overpriced. Auction business also bank on the "spirit" of the moment and perhaps someone in the room that is willing to bid the car up. This is simple economics of supply and demand. This is good as well as bad for us old car folks. Just depends on the day?

a really nice wasp 2dr sedan that has been discussed on this forum before. No way could you do a restoration for that amount as nice as that one is. I'm guessing in the non- auction market it would sell for around 30,000. I think it is one of the few cars that is actually nicer than pictures show.

Meanwhile the Italia fell below their hopes.

Wasn't the previous record Italia price about $350k? If so, then the seller at Gooding didn't do too badly.

The original posting was about the 1952 Wasp... Regardless of the sale price this car is a very special example of a survivor. The car has 18000 original miles and has not been restored. The interior is very close to pristine. A friend recently paid over 7K to replicate this style interior in his high dollar restoration (> more that 40K to date). A very good acquisition for a Hudson or antique car person wanting what can not be duplicated... originality.
