Great looking truck. And isn't it nice to listen to a narration that's 99% correct!!!! :D

I believe it was an aftermarket add-on. Bill Albright had one on his '53 Convert. identical to that one. It was not long after the step-down era that the inside of the glove box doors (of other mfg's) were made to accomodate drinks and/or a flat place to set food. Drive-Ins became all the rage and folks were really starting to hang out in their cars a lot more often.

One narrator comment gives the impression that Hudson pickups were first produced in '41. Maybe Paul had said something about this style being started then. But the trucks actually started when . . . '34 ?

    Hudson trucks - 1939, (112 in 1938)
    Terraplane 1934-1938
Essex-Terraplane -1933 (still looking for 1932 commercial models)
    Essex 1930-1932
    Dover 1929

Alex, I was thinking only of those trucks that have passenger car sheet metal up front. Did that start pre '34?

We have in the HET roster
    21 E
    22 H
    23 E x3
    23 H
    25 E
    27 H x2
    27 E
    29 H
    29 D
    31 E x2
    33 HT
    34 T
    35 T x3
    36 T x10
    37 T x35
    38 HT x5
    39 H x4
39 H Panel (Walrath) and another one someplace I think but doesn't appear on my list.

Problem is, that Charlotte has stopped sending updates, so my list is bad, and the focus has been on getting the rosters online under the HET site. This list still needs some scrubbing, primarily due to what the members have reported. Is it a commercial, or is it a coupe with a drawer in the trunk. Is it listed as a pickup?

The printed roster is another list which is a slice in time. We've lost some 800 members in the last 5 years. A lot of them had trucks of some sort.

Then there is Phil William's whatsit. A 29 Hudson Super 6 Model R canopy express with a Biddle and Smart body tag. Go figger.

5 '38's?? Wow. Where are they hiding? For that matter, I think there's a few more '39's than 6, but that's certainly not improbable.

    Don't see a '34 on the list . . . Isn't press Kale's a '34 ?

Well, I revisited my list and checked the HET site one, and the roster. Yup, I missed Kale's 34 and missed a couple of the others. I've edited the list. However, 2 lists never match, and more are worse, and there are at least 3 wandering around.

If you want to know where any of these vehicles are, and who owns them, (or did) email me at HETcramerlp@roadrunner.com

  • Paul Minor was THE reason I bought my 42 Commodore Eight Coupe project and joined HET. I know he sold the truck and last I heard owned a stepdown. Haven't seen him in a while but I can tell you he's one super guy and I could sit and talk with him for hours.
