Electric Wiper conversion for Step down

I don't know the year but I've recently been told that 50s Chevs used an identical wiper set up to Hudson, ie vacuum motor with wires and pulleys. The first year Chev swapped to electric wipers they still kept the wires and pulleys and just bolted an electric motor in place of the vacuum motor. After that year they went to a more conventional system with arms under the dash etc.
The hard part apparently is finding a Chev electric wiper motor from that one year because they have all been retro fitted to earlier years.0 -
Ivan... the commercial company that provides electric wipers is NEWPORT ENGINEERING.
https://newportwipers.com/ They use the same motor type that Clay Hannah used in his conversion kit. I found out that the motor from the rear wiper used in Ford Aerostar vans integrates the same motor.
Bob... the electric wiper that you are referencing began in 1957 Chevrolet. These motors bring large monies even if inoperative. They do in fact "bolt into" a Hudson stepdown.

I have seen threads about wiper conversions, but cannot get the "search" function to find anything.0

If you have 12 volts, a 57 chevy two speed electric is fairly easy. Takes about an hour. It uses the Hudson control cable. You need the bar that the cables attach to off your old motor. Add a wire to the electric motor and you are up and going.0

On site search is pretty much worthless. Use Google search, adding ClassicCar.com and " search subject"
This URL will take you to a HAMB posting where a Hamb'er posted the how to do it info on using a Lucas motor... probably will not work for the Hudson stepdown, but very interesting to see this solution.

I bought my electric wiper from the guy that took over Clay Hannah's successor. His first name is Alvin, but I can't remember his last name. He's in the Hudson directory in a town not too far from Oklahoma City. It still works well after six years.0

I went with the Newport set-up 4 years ago and am very happy with it. I wish that I had gone for the intermittant delay option at the time but the extra bucks for it was a factor. I would buy from them again.

If you decide to go the 57 chevy way these pics might help. Essentially you need to remove the pivot arm plate from the vacuum wiper motor, relieve the plate on the chevy motor, drill and tap holes thru both (I did 4 for good measure), sandwich two plates together, and attach chevy mount to Hudson mount with a couple panhead bolts (I used a washer stack for offset). not bad.
