Hi, 304539 is casting number for 1951-1953 Hornet "308"
Date of casting is located above this number, just below and probably hidden by the distributor.
Letter denotes the month, A being January. Last digit is the year, ),1,2,3 being 1951 or 52 or 53.
Digits in between are the day of the month.0 -

This engine I believe that is correct for the hornet I want to buy. I have one more question, the Vin of this Hudson is 170830 this match the title, but from what I could read on this forum this can't be a correct serial number. Any suggestion? Thanks0

Based on your number the car should be a 1952 Hornet built in May/June of 1952.0

170830 - May 1952. 8732 units built in May. 35,921 Hornets produced in total production.

Look on the right hand front side-corner of the engine, the engine number should be stamped there. It should match the vin # if original.
