Drained All Fluids, Now Where Is The Oil Filter?

Quick update, I've drained the engine oil, transmission fluid, and diff fluid (especially dirty!).

Now I need to find the oil filter.  I've worked on cars for year, but can't find the dang thing!  Any tips?

probably doesn't have one, by chance it does it will be a canister boltedto the side of the block, origonally orange with a black lid.

Most often black and orange (Fram), sometimes all black (aftermarket)

If you do not have one it is not that big of a deal. The Fram filter only filters about 30 percent of the oil in the engine. It is much more critical to use a good grade of multi weight oil and to change it every 3000 miles or each year depending on how much you use your car. By the way, these are easy to find on ebay or from some of the old car suppliers. They were used on almost all 50's engines.

In the early '50's oil filters were an optional add-on, just like the heater and the radio.

The manual call for SAE 30 weight. Is there something better I should be using? The car will be living in SW Florida once i ship it there from Oklahoma.

Since the weather is always mild down that way I would get a good grade of 20-30 weight of oil. stay away from that fake stuff and the kind that is good for 20,000 miles. I would use an oil zink additive and change the oil like clockwork 3000 miles or each spring whatever comes first.

Brownie, after much research on the net, it is my understanding that the extra zinc is only needed for breaking in a new camshaft.
