Is this a Essex Hubcap?

At first, I thought this was for a Packard, but now I was thinking Essex. Can anyone confirm? Year, model etc....? I have one that is restored, and four that are not (picture is one that is not restored)

It's not very big, 7.5 inches across. Looks like it would be a center cap for a wire wheel (similar to stepdown wire center cap). I posted pictures on a Packard forum, but not much luck. One guy thought it was a cap for a spare tire in the trunk.

Ohh,I need that!  I've got 5 for my 30 Essex  dual sidemount coupe,so I'm missing one. Not even positive they're correct for the 30 but its what I have. I've got 6 wire wheels but only the 2 fronts are drop center rims, the other 4 are split ring. I'd also love to come across 4 drop center rims too.

Well that is different isn't it? Mine all have a circle around the hex in the center.

    That's it! Can I assume bones1931 has a 1931 Essex?

If I recall he needed a five bolt hub or hubs to put wire wheels on a 30 roadster. This is maybe a couple years ago, I just remember for sure that his had five lug wheels and mine are six.

My wheels are 17 inch and 4 lug. I have been told that they are for a 31 Essex

The 17" 4 lug wires were first used on the 1932 Terraplane. In 1933 the 16" adjustible spoke
wires with 4 lugs were introduced.

Just saw Wayne Carini buy a 29 Pierce Arrow. Wire wheel caps on that car appear to be a visual match. Same as your cap?

Twin H. After much searching I was able to find the correct 19" wire wheels for the 30 Essex Roadster which are 6 bolt and the correct hubs and hubcaps. The 19" wire wheels with 5 bolt holes are for a 1931. The correct hupcap for a 31 Essex looks like the one inthe attached picture. The one I showed at first fit the hole in the 31 wire wheel but is for a 32.

Wow! The roadster looks great. Do you know who manufactured the 1930 wheels? Any tips on ID ing them?
I haven't done much on my 30 because I'm up to my neck in the 49 sedan, but I still need to find 4 more 1930 wheels. I have found some 5 lug 31's though. I have no idea what the four 5 lug split rims that are with it now came from.

Thanks TwinH. I looked for the manufacturer but couldn't find any names, the wheels have been blasted and powder coated so the name may be covered. I have enclosed a couple of pictures of the 30 Essex wheels before and one after, Hope this will help. These are the correct hubcaps for the 1930 Essex. I still need to find 5 bolt hubs for the 19"  31 Essex Wire Wheels.  One front and two rear.

TwinH. Here is a picture of three Essex hubcaps with the wheel opening sizes. 1930 Essex 6 5/8 inch, 1931 Essex 6 inch, and 1932 Essex 6 inch. I hope this is helpful.
