When pulling the axles out of my hornet, the bearing came off the axle on the driver,'s side, but not on the passenger side. I did not attempt to take this one off.The question I have is: Are the bearings pressed on or are they not.

Depends on year/mfgr. What year? If it's '52, you'll need to ID it since they switched during the year from Hudson-built "front load" housing to one with a bolt-on rear cover (Dana). The Hudson built axles use a 25877-T bearing that IS NOT

dang I hate this. I've written the previous post three times and it cuts me off each time.
I'll try here to write the rest of it.

IS NOT pressed-on in the common sense of the term. so a press is not only unnecessary but very dangerous as the 1 in 12 taper can exert sufficient radial force to explode the cone of those very expensive and, some say, rare bearings. Install dry, with one blow from a 2lb. hammer delivered by an average man......which means "give it a decisive smack but don't get carried away". If it has been running loose for some time, it may have damaged the axle taper so a close inspection should be made. A little fretting corrosion stain (reddish brown) is normal but it shouldn't have left a step in the taper surface. Thoroughly clean the bearing and cavity and repack with proper lubricant.
Read the procedure for re-installing the axle shaft and correctly establishing the end play.

In my haste, I neglected to state it is a 53 hornet. Does that mean that the bearing should be loose?
