Windshield washer vac control switch

Does anyone have a picture or illustration of the internals of the windshield washer switch?I have mine apart and I think a part is missing.
Any year from 48 and up should work to give me an idea of how the switch functions.
Thanks

  • 48,

I took the one in my 54 completely apart a few years ago but didn't' take
pictures.  If someone doesn't come to the rescue, see if you can find one off of
a parts car somewhere and proceed cautiously when taking it apart. I seem to
remember parts wanting to shoot across the room.

Thanks for the great pics,I left the switch in the dash and tried to remove the back section which is hard when parts fly out due to the rear spring.
I found one of the small disc's missing so that was why it would not work.
I tested the switch with one of those hand held vac pumps and I would lose vac fairly fast but I don't think the disc was made to be a perfect seal metal to metal.
I will try it with the engine running when spring gets here and I get her outside again.
  • Ken,
I converted my car to electric washers several years ago, but it didn't have the wiper/washer unit on it.  Is there a way to put a washer unit on a Stepdown using the vacuum from the carburetor even though the wipers are electric?  I miss being able to wash the bug juice and bird s... off the windows as I'm riding down the road.

  • That should read electric wipers.
  • Do you still have the washer switch installed as you can use it by connecting it to a vac source and just use the center push button to the activate the vac diaphragm in the washer jar.
  • Ok.  You guys are way ahead of me.  I don't even have the old washer glass jar, much less the works that go with it.  So in other words, never mind.
  • If you do put in a jar here is what I installed for the washers. There are just two lines, vac and fluid to hook up.
