What engine do I have?
The original 232 engine in my 1951 Hudson Pacemaker Brougham was not repairable when I acquired the car in 1996. The engine block was broken. After some year I was able to find a 262 engine which was said to originate from a 1954 Hudson. I restored it and need to have som more information about it when going to the authorities for registration of the car. This will be in end of april after 18 years of restoration.
The engine is a 262 cui engine and has the number 5296749.
I don’t know from which car it originates. Could be a 1954 Wasp or Super Wasp. The 262 engines were made with compression/horsepower 6.7/123 and 7.0/140.
Can anyone tell what engine I have? When it was manufactured? I cannot find any info that clarifies.Would be happy to get the document stating the origin as I probably have to show it.
I enclose a faked picture showing me in my Streamliner no 2. Streamliner no 1 is my 1937 Lincoln Zephyr V12 Coupe, restoration time 1976-1991, only 16 years.
Thanks for your answers in advance.

DocHubler, Thanks for your comments. Sorry I forgot to say that I am living in Sweden where the rules for registration seem to be different from those in the US. I have to show documents that verify data for the car. I have an Owner Manual for my car but this states the 232 engine which is not in the car. As engine data like type, displacement, horsepower and torque will be transfered to the registration paper I need the correct data for this. I will not take the chance that the inspection man does not notice the rather big 262 number on the engine and I don´t want the lower values for the 232 engine to be filled in to the document. This will have a negative influence in case I once have to sell the car.
Hope you can understand my desire to have a document showing the engine performance. By now I know from you that the engine is a Super Wasp and I have the serial number. But still I don´t know the compression, horsepower and torque which I need. Can you find a document showing this?0 -
Doc, You have now made all clear to me. Thanks for the website which was exactly what i needed. I have made a print out of the data chart for 1954 Hudson Super Wasp Club Sedan and 1951 Hudson Pacemaker Brougham. That is what I will show when I register the car.
I think it is only Britain which require horsepowers for tax purposes. In Sweden we pay according to weight.

Micki, if all they care about is the cubic inches, you could always use a 232 head on your 262 engine. This would also up the compression ratio slightly and give you a bit of improved performance.

Fortunately in the UK these days Micki for cars of a certain age we no longer have to worry about tax purposes as this is now free.
Paying of tax on a car based on its horsepower was phased out in 1947 / 1948 I think but prior to that was the reason why we ended up with such beasts as the 14.9 HP Model A and my own 16.9 HP 1120 -
To ArkieJazz, I don´t have the 232 engine any more and consequently not the 232 head. By now I have sloved the problem.Thanks.
To Paul Butler, Thenks for your info. I really don´t know about the rules in England as I am living in Sweden.
