Car location

Any one know what happened to the '33 Essex I use as my avatar picture. It was sold at auction in Iowa a few years ago. (Within the last 5 years) I was not in a place to bid at the time, but the car had a lot of potential to be restored to original configuration. It had a later Hudson engine and column shift tranny fitted. I wanted to approach the bid winner but could not figure out what to say without coming across as some sort of a nut...so I missed my chance to keep tabs on my all time favorite car..a '33 Essex cabriolet. Thanks. Regards, Tom

  • Tigermoth-

I guarantee you would not have come across as a nut, to another car guy.  Every car person I've ever met, right down to Jay Leno will talk to you about their car like you are a long lost friend.  Don't ever let that stop 'ya.

Can't help you with the location of the car, though . . .
    B-)
  • I dunno, but there's a fella selling what he calls a 1933 "Essex roadster" in Idaho....needs a lot of work, and he's asking $15,000.  http://boise.craigslist.org/cto/4350216944.html
  • ...it would be an expensive proposition to save that roadster back to "as factory"...too bad. Lovely car in stock configuration. Thanks for posting the link Jon. Regards, Tom
  • There are no windows in the illustrated door: its a roadster.  There are side curtain sockets in the door top shown: its a roadster.   The general term for a modified car in the public domain is roadster.

Its a heckuva price for what is being offered unless the workmanship is bad that has been done.   Not many of us will ever own a stock '33 Essex-Terraplane roadster or convertible and part of that equation is both due to availability of the cars, the parts and then the value.   But a '33 E-T roadster hot rod will be a knockout anywhere including HET.   I mean its not like y'all have points judging and authenticity standards.
