Clutch flush: alternatives to C-tet?

Is there an easily available alternative to the carbon-tet/acetone solution described in the shop manual (1951)?

  • I hope you'll pardon the self-reply, but I just noticed this in the Tech Bulletin Clutch Flushing thread, from Frank:

"I have found that 3-M Brake Parts Cleaner and likely many other
similar products, do a good job of removing the shellac-like glaze on
the inserts with the disc "on the bench"."

Have others used this product? Advice?

True Value sells 'Carbochlor' a combo of Carbon Tet and 'Chlorothane'  Works great.
  • Thanks, guys. Using any of these products, is it advisable to stick with the 1/3-pint recommendation in the Shop Manual?
