1929 Essex Project Starts

Hello Everyone,

Now that the weather is trying the turn to summer I'm starting to work on the 1929 Essex I recently purchased.  My first question is about the roof.  I've attached a picture of the roof which appears to be in good condition although it's very dirty.  I assume it is some type of fabric but don't really know.  Is there any type conditioner that is used on these?  I'm reluctant to wash it for fear that soap may do more harm then good. Thanks for any feedback.

I believe it's a sort of vinyl or leatherette.  There might be a "top dressing" you could use.  Of course it MIGHT be original, but my guess is that someone has redone it in the last few years. 

By the way, there is an Essex Yahoo "group" on the internet, http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/HudsonSuperSix16-29/  -- maybe you should join it, and ask the question over there!

Thanks  Jon. I wasn't aware of the Essex Group.  I give that a try.
