Clutch housing stuck to block
I wanted to remove the single lever overdrive trans from my 308 setting on creeper in garage. Simple job I thought, remove starter and clutch housing bolts. Not so. It's stuck like glue.. No amount of tapping on housing and jerking on end of trans will shake it loose from the engine, not even slightly.
TIP I received from Perry Spring. Grind a knife edge to power hacksaw blade. Hammer it between clutch housing and starter plate on back of engine. That freed the stuck clutch housing from corrosion on centering dowel to remove trans. Trans removal was easy after that. I'll clean off the corrosion and put a thin coat of grease on dowel to prevent future problem. I imagine it would have been more difficult had the engine and trans been in the car.
