We had about 15 rear axles disappear from our parts stash in northern Illinois last night. If anyone hears anything please let me know.

check your local metal recycler that gives cash for scrap. dang meth heads are stealing anything they can get thier hands on! just seen a news report on T.V. 5 minutes ago that methheads are cutting out chunks of wood from 1000 year old plus trees in national parks and selling to custom furniture shops. of course this kills the tree! I've been victimized myself by them several times.1

At one point catalytic converters were big theft items - thieves with battery powered saw-zalls were cutting them out of cars in large mall parking lots. One unsubstianted rumor had a complete engine stolen out of their car in a mall parking lot in MA. I say rumor - but I saw a film when I was stationed in Brooklyn, NY, that showed just how fast thieves could strip a car. Less than 15 min as I recall.

"Guess someone in 'Section 8' housing (behind us) needed a hose to wash their Escalade..."I'm sorry, but that's funny, right there. Probably true, too!0

Those axle shafts make wonderful tent stakes...0

Maybe etch your name and address on the parts, if possible. Along with "this part stolen from............"

Worst of all, some of those axle assemblies likely had the unobtanium roller bearings in them!0

A few years ago I swapped a rear end on my 49. Put the old one outside the shop. Cleaned it up with the pressure washer and pulled the center and the axles out. next day the housing was gone! Not a big loss, but for a few pennies a pound ? Glad I took the innards out rather than wait until the next day!

The company I used to work for had the catalytic converters cut out of the fleet vehicles one sunday afternoon, the only day they were closed. The perps came in and went right down the line grabbing converters, crazy!0

My thief didn't bother taking anything off. He took the whole car with new engine, trans, wheels & tires, new interior wiring etc.
