Ray, first disconnect the battery, then press your palm down on the center of the horn emblem and turn it to the left with your other hand about a half inch or so. Now that you know how to do it, don't do it. I changed my pointer by removing the indicator-shift arm bracket, (two large chrome screws) and the steering column support two piece bracket from the dash. This gives you enough wiggle room with everything loose to pull the shift arm shaft away from the column enough to take the indicator bezel off and swap out that plastic needle. You may have to remove the screws from the floor plate also. I don't think pulling the steering wheel or anything inside there will get you to where you want to go. Not an easy job.

I thought that I was going to have the car going soon but found out when I replaced the metal under the stone guards that the stone guards do not fir good. When I did the welding I had no good stone guards to try on.  BUMMER   Ray

    Ray-

Where did you find the replacement needle?  You reminded me that mine is broken and I need to find another.

Hi Russel Your car is looking supercalifragilastic eptealidousious. I think I got the needle from Albrights Hudson of California. But I think Eshelmans of Idaho reproduce them.   You have to sound out my words.  Ray

    Russell,
I think the Eshelman's in Idaho have them.  Their phone number is in the White Triangle News under Member Products & Services.  They used to have a website but couldn't find it a few weeks ago.

Yes, Eshelman's has them, a very nice repro.  I bought one after breaking the one from Albright;s and then proceeded to break that one when I slipped!   I made a replacement one out of aluminium sheet stock, applied white paint and managed to get it installed without any apparent damage.  YMMV.    Bruce
