Model 70 pickup vs model 71 deluxe

New to the forum. Are the running boards and frame from a 4 door model 71 deluxe slant back the same length for a 1937 model 70 pickup truck? Thinking about swapping chassis and using sheet metal from the deluxe. Thanks

Welcome to the forum, 37peerless.  You'll find a lot of help here - great bunch of folks.  Now for your question.

1937 Group Parts book (copy in the online library - URL below, if you want to check), page 66, says running board 120300 (RH) - 120301 (LH) fits models 70, 71, 72.

Page 27, Frame, says frames are not interchangeable - 152809 for Model 70, 152808 for Model 71-72 (exc. BsCpe, Conv.),

Now, that said, if you have the talent it's probably possible to adapt a 71-72 frame to a Model 70 body.  I mean just about anything can be made to fit anything else if you work at it.

  • Thanks Alex for the info. I will check out the group parts book. Truck does have a frame. I was hoping to swap the cab onto the running sedan and go. Of course easier said than done. Just takes time. Now I need to find out how different the two frames are? Maybe a cross member? Thanks again

Most likely the difference has to do with the box mounting. Should be easy to overcome.

    Good luck.

Diane Frocks 37 PU's frame had been damaged so a 37 Terraplane Coupe was purchased for the use of its parts including the frame. The frame was the same wheelbase as the PU. The sedans are longer wb, but I'm not sure where the added length is on Terraplane sedan frames vs coupe frames. I had a 37 Hudson sedan frame at the same time and it was longer from the steering box forward then the shorter wb Terraplanes.
The commercial vehicles did not have the "torque arms" in the front like the regular production vehicles had, I discovered while prepping the car frame for PU use.
Seems to me that the cab mounted in the same location on both the Hudson and Terraplane frames.
  • Thanks for chiming in Kerry. Have seen your work done on that pickup. Beautiful job! I will have to transfer what I can from the sedan to the pickup frame. My main concern was using the running boards and all of the sheet metal from the cowl forward. Front fenders, grill and hood. Would like to use the running motor and such from the sedan. Thanks for the info!

Also, there may be someone in your area with a '37 pickup you could look at and measure.  You never know.  If you're in the Club you can check your roster.

Thanks 37Peerless!! It was a lot of work------
We had a discussion about this on the old forum but I can't pull the info back up.
Seems like at one time the PU cab mounted on the Hudson frame I had, had some sheet metal spaces so they could use the Hudson front end.
Were the Hudson front fenders longer than the Terraplane Fenders? Maybe just the straight 8?

Peerless, give us a measurement of the running board length.
  • Thanks to everyone who welcomed me to this forum. Truck is up on my friends property in a storage building. Will be getting it sooner than later. I will post some pics when I bring her home.
