H-E-T Bylaws Change -- Question
Can any Club director help me on this?
The proposed bylaw change ("Article XV") consists of only two sentences and replaces a rather lengthy by-law which specified how the money should be banked, and how Senior Directors should verify that chapter members (in their region) are all paid-up members of the National club.
My question: The new, streamlined by-law no longer specifies that Senior directors have to make sure all chapter members are also H-E-T members, and it no longer specifies that deposit slips for banked dues, shall be sent to officials of the Club. Where, then, will these rules be stated?

A good Senior Director will be looking at chapter membership info from time to time, to see if there are folks who aren't national members, regardless of whether that responsibility is expressly stated. We've had some excellent SD's, and a few who haven't had much interest in what's going on in their chapters. Thankfully, not many of the latter.0

Not to make a big deal of this, but why would they want to drop both the requirement to verify National membership (by all chapter members), plus the requirement that the membership person furnish deposit slips to National officials? Just seems like good common-sense ideas. If no longer necessary, I wonder why these things were inserted into the by-laws to begin with?

Jon, because all of the memberships are managed online, and require that the contributions be recorded to support the membership, there is no need to send anything to the Treasurer. The Treasurer can simply go online and pull the report. The reason why the deposit slip needed to be sent before was because there was no way for the Treasurer to validate that the memberships received were supported by a payment and the payment was submitted to the bank. That was a best practice to ensure that both the membership chair and the Treasurer could demonstrate that they were handling Club money appropriately. Make sense?0

Thanks, Aaron, that answers one question. How about the other part: where it stated that the senior director has the duty to verify that all chapter members are indeed also members of the National? Is that rule now in place elsewhere, thus can be dumped from the bylaws?
