Some 53 trim on a 51?
It looks like on my hudson, someone at some point tried to make it look like a 53 by removing the triangle bars in the grill, and putting at 53 hood on the car. I'm pretty sure that isn't correct and I'll be putting that back to the proper hood and ornament and replacing the triangle bars. But now im also concerned about the rear license surround, mine has the full license surround on the rear of the car, but all the other 51's I have seen had the two vertical posts with dual license lights. Is this valid to have on a 51 hollywood or did someone change it out to make the car look more modern like they did with the front?

The full surround is for a '52-'53. You are correct, your car should have the two individual bumperettes with the license plate lights housed inside of them.0

Dyurko,
My Avatar shows the proper bumper, if it's large enough to make it out. Previous owner of my '51 decided it would look good with the stainlss trim around the cabin from a '52 was added- course the '52 dimensions on the rear quarter are not the same as those on a 51, and... Walt-LA0 -
Since you said they put a 53 hood on the car, note that a 52-53 grille center is different than the 51. the hood was changed to follow this profile.

Thanks for the help, after looking at pictures of my 51, and what a 52-53 looks like, I am now leaning towards that this is a hood from a 51 that had a 53 hood ornament put on it. It has the higher arching center emblem surround instead of the flatter one that is on the later model cars. This wouldn't have been a big deal, but somewhere along the line they tried to make the scoop that was built into the 53 ornament functional by cutting out the metal under the ornament.
Is the lisence plate light assembly the same for both these cars? The bulb, lens and chrome surround? Just that the 51 uses two, and the 52-53 uses one in the surround?

Dyuko, I parted a '51 Commodor 6 and kept the two round license plate light housings for the rear-nothing else back there was salvageable- if your interested. They're pitted but restorable and they have the lens'. Terry0
