Do you need to apply sealant when installing a head gasket on a flathead 6 Hudson ? Thank you

Aluminum paint works the best. Several coats , let it dry

I agree with Lostmind . It's a trick that I learned back in my motorcycle racing days. Alumaseal in the radiator can't hurt either if you are concerned about coolant seeping from the head gasket area.

My personal preference is to seal the threads so the coolant doesn't even get as far as the Block-gasket-head interfaces.....but I'll admit to spraying on a layer of "Copper-Coat" anyway. Who's to say what's in "Aluminum Paint"? That's a pretty fuzzy term.

If using the old style Fel Pro gaskets any sealer will work to a point.  I've never seen one seal up completely on a hornet.  If using the newer composition from Best you  don't need to apply anything.  Make sure your head is straight and block clean.  We have those in stock for sale.

Would I be correct that the "Best" composition gasket is available only for the 308? It may not apply to the specific engine that hudson40 was asking about.

You can assume correctly it is for the 308,  I don't know what specific engine he is referring to with his statement "flathead 6 hudson" unless I am missing something here.

51-54 had 7/16 bolts  55 & 56 had 1/2 in bolts
