Pilot Bearing removal
What is the best way to remove the pilot bearing from the flywheel while it is still attached to the crank. The service manual specs a "inertia type expanding jaw puller J-877". Where can I get one, or what tool would be comparable? Would I have to remove the Flywheel?
Also, there are some slight score marks in the flywheel. What determines if I have to get it turned or not?
Thanks
Dan

After going to Autozone and Napa I found a tool at Harbor Freight. It cost 75.00. The challenge was finding one that would work on a 3/8" hole. Most only worked on a minimum of 1/2".

If you have an old pilot shaft or piece of steel the same diameter.. You can pack the hole with heavy grease, place the old shaft or steel dowel in the opening and hit it with a heavy hammer. That often will cause the bushing push out. May have to repack and re hit. Don't hit your hand .. the screaming disturbs the neighbors. :-))0

I've used the same method as Super Dave mentioned and it works.0
