Machine shop

Does anybody know of a reputable machine shop in the San Diego ca area experienced with machining Hudson 308 engines? I took my first 308 block to hds in Escondido very good to work with but said they couldn't machine the block for 1/2" studs. They sonic tested my first block and it had thin cylinder walls at 80 over.

I'm looking for a shop that can fully prep my block so I don't have to get work done at one and transport it to another.

Thank you.

Zach Webster.

Amazing that they couldn't re-cut the 7/16 holes out to 1/2". That's a pretty basic operation on a mill.
    maybe a magnetic drill press?
I'll have to call my shop and ask how they did the 308 I am working on.

They said it had something to do with their machine not being big enough.

I didn't make it clear I think, I bought another 308 engine and that's why I'm looking for a machine shop.

I had costa mesa r&d do the machine work on my 308 last year.It may or may not be too far for you. I had them bore, deck, install new valve guides, valve job with 7x size valves, re bush the rods, and mill the head. The price was 655 including them thermal cleaning my block before the work. I had already gotten the crank resurfaced and micro polished elseware for 50 bucks. I had Dany Spring mill the 7x plus block relief and drill and tap the block for 1/2 inch head bolts. He is in Fontana CA . Im sure John at costa mesa r&d can do all of it there.

there are lots of video of costa mesa r&d on youtube and that is how I found them. Call John Edwards at 949-631-6376

That's not too far. I'll probably give rd a shot. I'd like to get the 7x relief done aswell.

    What did Dany spring charge?

I want to say it was 400 and he also did some acid cleaning of the coolant passages

I'd like to have that done because that's what killed my first block. I'll contact him. Does Dany do full prep, bore deck etc? Or is he limited and that's why you went to r&d?

I believe Dany uses a Bridgeport mill for the bolt holes and the relief, and knows the Hudson engine well. I think he would have to farm out the honing and decking but you should contact him and see what he thinks about your project.
