Working on our 41 Bigboy pickup. We took 5 leaf's from the rear springs to soften it up.

With the new drive train, the truck seems to sit high in the front. 250 Chevy and 700r4 trans.

Were the car front springs a lower rate than the pickups? If so, I will need to find a set to soften the front up.

Does anyone know the front spring rates from cars and trucks?

The 8cyl cars used 1630 lbs rate 290
The 6cyl cars used 1396 lbs rate 253

Hang on to the removed spring leaves. The rear spring leaves are now carrying a greater load so in case the springs should sag later on you can reinstall some leaves if needed.

We are keeping the removed springs. Infact we have extras from a Pickup box trailer we bought. When we go to use the pickup box trailer, it will get reworked with a lighter weight frame and a torsion axle.

Who has a spare set of CAR front springs? I will guess 1941-1947
  • I have a pair of NOS springs marked 162532. Let me know if interested.  My guess is that they are for the 8 cyl 46-7 car.
  • I have a pair of new old stock 6 Cyl springs, sell for $100 plus shipping. These are for 41 thru 47 Six cyl.
  • Lance. I will take your front springs.
I have a 46 truck with a strait 8 in it and my springs are shot.
PM me if they are still avadible.

    Thanks,
    Paul.

Cargray, I have sent you a PM.

Paulrhd29nz, This is kinda high jacking my thread. Maybe you should just PM him.

P.S. I have talked with Lance and will probably pass on his springs. Tom
