1922 Essex Flywheel Removal

I am trying to finish the clutch rebuild on my 22 Essex Coach.  I need to remove the flywheel in order to have the machine work done.  This thing is stuck on the crank and 4 bolts.  What is the best way to remove it with out damaging any parts such as the crank, bearing, or seals?  Is there a special puller?

I have done some heavy tapping with a brass mallet on the back of the flywheel but I can not get it to budge.  I have used plenty of penetrating oil but to no use.  I have taped the bolts back slightly but as you know there is no clearance to get them out without pulling the crank and I am not about to do that at this point.  Is it time to get out the torch and use some heat?

Jay, do you know Dave Kostansek?  He knows a lot about the early Hudsons and might be able to answer your questions....or he might know someone who could help you.

There is also an Essex "Yahoo Group" on the internet which you might want to join.  This forum is great, but of course that "group" is totally Essex-oriented!

Heat will not help. Carry on with the brass hammer while turning the crank.

Well, I tried a little heat, I don't know if that helped.  But the 26 manual discussed using a pry bar.  I purchased one that fit between the block and the wheel and had a friend turn the crank.  After a few turns 180 degrees apart it came off.

    Thanks for the advice.
