Strange Wheel Covers

While checking out Ken's post on the rear stabilizer bushings, I ran across something in the 1951 Bulletin he referenced..... Optional wheel covers...

I have been around Hudsons most of my life (74 years and counting).. I have never seen those depicted in the bulletin. They appear to be pictured along with the optional trim rings. Maybe a little deceptive, since they would have to be attached using the five clips that are on the wheel. Not Full discs like introduced in 54.. Please enlighten me if you have any of these wheel covers.

I would love to have a set to use on my 49  Super/ 50 Pacemaker/ 51 Hornet/  49 & 50 Commodore/ 53  Wasp . That is the sum total of cars that donated parts and pieces  ...so far... in my resurrection of this wreck that started out as a 49 super 6 Two door sedan.

I always assumed those were Hornet Special hubcaps. I've seen a few and left them lay.

    Dave-

Those wheelcovers are the full size covers that came available in '52 as an option and became standard on the senior cars in '54.  I recently put an NOS set on my sedan and did a write-up about it.

The Bulletin illustration sure is misleading. It looks like there are several "rings" near the outer edge that look like the trim rings.. But Russ's picture of his actual 52 /53 with 54 type.. look just like the illustration , So I was mistaken. I've had a number of those but since there was a problem using them on early rims, I gave them way.  Since four of the wheels I got from Lance for my 49 are some version of the ones with nubs on them, I could use the 54 type. I just prefer the look of the trim ring and wheel disc.

The Hornet Special Had the same stamping as the 48-53 with the exception of the center "kite"  I like the look of the cover with the trim ring. I wouldn't mind having a couple decent ones. At least in later production of the stepdowns were stainless, hence repairable. I paid $100 a piece to have a pair of nice 49's rechromed for my convertible. This two door is not worth that cost!  It's a "Clabbered up mess".LOL
