'54 Hudson Wasp - I'm new!

Hello All,

I have been messing around with old cars since the time I could drive, I am 38 years old now. I picked up a '54 Super Wasp last year here in California, or as I like to say "it found me" since I have mostly been a Chevy guy and was by no means in the market for a Hudson. But it caught my eye and here I am. Over the past year I have gone through the entire running gear getting her road worthy.

There seems to be a lot of information on here and knowledgeable folks, so please don't let my amateur-level questions bother you. Your help is most appreciated!

Welcome to the world of Hudsons.  This is a terrific forum for having questions answered regarding mechanical issues, Hudson history, club gatherings, etc.,.  As Rick suggests above, do consider joining the HET Club and also the local Hudson chapter near you in CA.

One last thing,  it is to be hoped that the original 6 cylinder engine in your '54 Super Wasp is in good enough condition that you won't be tempted to replace it with a small block Chevy!

Welcome to the sometimes whacky, sometimes insane, but always interesting world of Hudsons.  As the unofficial slogan says "Come for the cars - Stay for the people."

Check the online library @ http://hetclub.org/burr/lithomepage.htm for all kinds of goodies that may help you maintain your Hudson.  The HET club also has a virtual library run by John O'Halloran so that may be of some help.

    Hudsonly,
    Alex Burr

    Ratwasp,

Email me your snail mail address and I will send you a copy of the White Triangle News (WTN), the bi-monthly, award winning publication of the Hudson Essex Terraplane Club.  You will find it full of articles, information, classified ads, resources, etc. which will help with the restoration of any Hudson built automobile.

Email me at XXXForkner@aol.com (drop the XXX) and put WTN in the subject line.

  • Thanks for the welcome wagon everyone! I am already a member on the HET Club so you may see some of my topics over there as well. Yes my Wasp still has the original 6 motor in it, runs great. Struggling with clutch issues for a long time however.

Bring your questions here (and to the Forum over at the H-E-T website) and we'll try to help you out.   Now that you're in the H-E-T, do try to make some of the local chapter meets in your area, even if you aren't a member of the chapter.  It's good to get to know nearby Hudson owners, they can be a great help in your time of need!

There are a few guys on here that know about the clutches. Not me. But others. So what is the problem with your clutch? B-)

You know the clutch takes clutch fluid.
