Why is it that when hired ebayer's find a jewel in an old house , they play the game.

It seems to me , after watching the mkt place for Hudsons over the last couple of years, that Non Husonites alway's seem to make comments about Rodding on ebay. This in fact seems to be a scare tactic to make a quick sale. Granted in some cases like the 49 convt it was fine because it was a rare car and was snatched up quick . Certianly it went to a Hudson Curator.

However , in the case of the below avg Hudson it seems as if it just forces up the price. It also seems that there are alot of people not in the club that watch the HET Forum. They must see and feel the Passion of the members and then seed the field. The next day Barn fresh Huddy for sale on ebay.

  • I believe the rodding aspect comes from the fact that the stepdowns look like they have already been chopped and look "cool". Also, regardless of car type, most people who sell "project" cars almost always offer the rodding or Rat Rod line because it is pretty easy to find any engine and interior and throw it in (obviously there are different levels of rodding quality). Also, you don't have to go out and find hard to get and expensive original parts for a restoration or necessarily replace a cut out piece or section. I don't think its a scare tactic just a sales pitch for an easier sale. This forum is the best wealth of info and is amazing if you love Hudsons. HET membership probably has a very large amount of the Hudsons spoken for in the US and the world but there are inevitably some others out there in the hands of "privateers". I've said it before here on the forum, Hudsons have been undervalued. People are now realizing why these are special. I've been into cars all my life but it wasn't until only a bit over a year ago that I found out why Hudsons are special. In the stepdown's case it was lower, wider, longer and faster. It changed Detroit and the automotive world. Wait until the end of this summer and see how values have increased. Niels
  • I agree Niels, but also the "rat rod" thing seems to be the going fad now and the use of the term in eBay and other ads are good buzz words to catch people's eye and hence make for a quicker, higher sale value. I feel if the sellers get more money for their projects....good for them. Eventually, the craze will move to another car. I like them ratted, resto'd, and hot rodded. Heck, now you see many station wagons and 4 door cars from the 60's and 70's that I never saw at the car runs years ago.
