G'day All,
I am confused as to how many types of Carter WD 's there are
Seemingly endless variants
I attach photo's of two I have
The oily one has a base too large for the 8cyl manifold
The rather rusty one fits well and I have another unit which is not damaged and will use. I am missing all linkages though and would appreciate pics etc of linkages for this type of carby
Thanks
Phil

Phil, If you're talking about stepdowns, there were 3 types used. 1948-50 used a Carter 2bbl WDO model. In 1951-54 the next version of the 2 bbl was the Carter WGD. Pacemakers starting in 1950 used the WA-1. At this time also used on the twin H setup was the Carter WA-1. Jets used the WA-1 as well with several modifications that were different from the twin H setup. This is a general guide as to what the cars used origionally but over 60 plus years-this can be quite different from where they began.0

No, talking about mid 30's

There were many different Carter carbs made in the 30s. Basically every car maker that use Carter used a different linkage set up, then every time there was a change in jets or metering rods there was a different Carter number. I have a 37 8 that looks similar, it is a Carter 344 (they also used a 377), but the linkage is slightly different. Also as you found out the later manifolds have a large bolt pattern.
It is important that the metering rods and jets match you application or it will never run right and you will not be happy. So knowing the engine and manifold is just as important as the carb number.
