Geared starter motor for a 35 H8

My 35 H8 roadster project is going to be a 12V car. Rather than have the existing 6V starter rewound as 12V I'm using a modern geared starter motor. One reason for going for the geared starter is that they are a lot more gentle on the ring gear, the starter doesn't start cranking until the pinion is fully engaged with the ring gear.

This pinion engages from the front of the ring gear unlike the original, but I'm not worried about the ring gear being pushed off the flywheel. One reason is that as I say above the pinion engages very gently, another is that the edge of the pressure plate will keep the ring gear in place.

The basic starter motor is used as a retrofit for many vehicles, including 454 big blocks, it has no trouble cranking a 254 8cyl. The adapter plate with the starter is one that I've made. Many pinion options are available with the starter, there is a 9 tooth one available that is the same diameter as the Hudson/Autolite item.
