262 engine id
I have this Hudson 262 and trying to find out if it is the early block or later wide block.
Serial # 200174
If I'm looking at the parts book correctly, I think it is a 1952 Commodore six.
The starting car # for Commodore Six was 133118 in 1952
The starting car # for Super Wasp was 202919 in 1953
Correct?

The engine is laying on it's side and I can't see the casting number.

All narrow blocks will bear a 48*, 49* or 50* s/n stamped vertically in front of the #1 exhaust port.

Tell me the casting number, easy positive id. This info is posted on Alex Burrs Hudson info site.

Leaving for the evening, 300001 is 48 and early 49. 302627 is late 49 and 50.

The engine is laying on its side, under a building and I can't see the casting numbers without pulling it out.
The serial number is 200174, no 3 in it. I don't see a 48-49 or 50 number beginning the serial number.0 -

133118 would be a 1952 number - build date would be Nov. 1951 (133916-133708

202919 would be a 1953, 3nd off the line in Nov. 1953. (202917-208037)
These numbers do not tell what the model was for those. Numbers were assigned randomly - tho they may have built, say, 10 Commodore 6's followed by 5 Super Sixes and so on. No way to tell unless the daily talley book shows up and those are probably in a Detroit landfill.

Thanks for the info!
The main thing I really needed to find out is if is a wide block, which it is. I need the head. Puuled and cleaned it up and it mics at 1.90" so I dropped it off at the macine shop to surface. Starting with .005 and see if that does it.
The block still has the crank but no rods or pistons.0
