Hornet Valve Guides
Has anyone successfully removed exhaust valve guides in your home garage? If so, how? I made a puller from 5/16 stainless steel hardened bolts and tried to pull them using a top plate on the block. I had a 1/2 drive impact maxed out and all the bolt did was bore into the steel plate - the valve guide did not budge one iota (is that a word?). These things must be removable somehow...............................
Help!

Thanks Ken. Has anyone else successfully accomplished a valve guide removal at home?

I use the same procedure. Put lots of rags in there to catch the parts.
Bill had a complete write up on this a few months ago.
I think it's the accepted practice.

Great information guys. Thanks. Any chance you can come up with the write up from "Bill"?
What's really wierd is that this engine is not a high milage engine, and............, not all valve guides are bad. But the ones that are, are really sloppy - other are still only slightly loose.

I replaced all the guides in Scott's Black/Boston Cream Hornet. Just drive them down a little with a solid punch and hammer, to dislodge them, then pull them out with stainless threaded rod, or grade 8 bolts and nuts.0
