The kiwi's have the right idea - the cars were meant to be driven, not hidden away in the garage as to many do here in the states.  Sad, really.

Just got home after 1,600 mile trip in  the Jet to the Annual N.Z. H.E.T. gathering.  Average 25 m.p.g., used 1 litre of oil, and apart from the bottom water pump  hose coming  slightly loose,  and a retread starting to peel off, no other problems.

  • Were the pics taken on the southern island?
Love the landscape and the cars.   Hope ya'll had a safe trip(normal maintenance).    Thanks, Bob

I hope you'll send your writeup and photos to the WTN so all can enjoy it, and we Yanks can be inspired to drive our cars as you Kiwi's do!

Our chapter (the CBC) in conjunction with the Garden State Chapter, held a 2-day tour through the environs of Wilmington, Delaware in April.  And we completed a 2-day tour in October to Cumberland, Maryland along with the Tri-State Mountain Roads chapter. In both cases we had 6 to 8 Hudsons along at various times, with people joining and leaving the tour at different points along the route.  Not as ambitious as yours (only 200 miles round trip in October), the Hudsons were newer (mine the only pre-1940 one) but nonetheless it was a "driving event".

There are those who like to "show" their cars, and those who like to "drive" them.  I'm one of the latter, and I hope that we can convince Hudson owners to continue using their cars the way they were designed to be used -- on the road!

My god, I had the fortune to see Milford Sound once.   Probably still, one of the most majestic, absolutely beautiful places I have ever been.  Add a few Hudsons--it would truely be heaven...k

I was driving in convey with my friend in his 28 Essex Coupe.  My 28 Essex Coupe blew it's #6 big end after about 150 miles & I climbed into my friend's Coupe & we completed the balance of the 1800 mile trip in that.
We live in Wellington - a little further north than Geoff. My car got to Geoff's (on a flatbed)& I collect it on Wednesday. Thanks Geoff.
Two very early Essex 4's from Wellington completed an even longer but separate trip traveling with yet another 28 Essex Coupe. The Essex 4s had Grand-dad & Grandma in one car & their late teenager grandson & friend in the other. What a great way to interest the younger generation!!
In New Zealand, other drivers are mostly understanding about our old cars traveling at  somewhat sedate speeds so long as we pull over when possible & allow them to pass. We get lots of waves (happy) smiles & honks.
Now my Coupe is a "chick magnet" in the way it never was when I was able to be interested!!
