Is this removed by pulling off the bearing-shaft with a puller? I don't want to break it getting it off!
I can't find a reference in the manual on removing it.

Hi  Kerry,   I feel your pain!   Nice picture!   At the point of dis assembly shown one must now carefulll dis member  the rest of the gears on the main shaft.    Remove top cover and look for one or more snap/retainer rings holding the gears in their positions on the shaft . Don't remember all the details.  It has been about 45 years since I had to operate on one of these !  My first attempt resulted in the same issue you are now facing.
It's really not so bad  especially if you were inspecting and replacing bearings and synchro rings.
Hopefully someone will join in and give you more accurate specifics.   :)

Oops,   there are also snap rings holding the O.D. adapter plate bearing.  I seem to recall that the mainshaft has to be removed from the trans case before this snap ring is accessable.

    Good luck!

Thanks Rick! There were metal pieces in the trans and it would jam when trying to put into third gear. I want to take it totally apart for cleaning and inspection.

The instruction book does actually cover all  dismantling procedures under the heading "Disassembly - complete unit".

While not being able to find a specific reference to removal of the adapter plate in the Hudson manual, I found a reference on line in a Warner overdrive page.
Note- Adapter plate is removed as a unit with transmission mainshaft gears and synchronizer. Do not disturb adapter plate unless transmission being disassembled.

Of course on this one I am doing a complete dis-assembly.
Yes, I see complete details for dis-assembly of the internal trans and od parts, just not anything specific to adapter plate removal from shaft, in the Hudson manual. Strange.
