  • Looks like my 1929.  May have been sold new in early 1930 therefore titled with that date.
1930 Essex starting serial number  1165674.
  • Shawn: certainly not a 1930, which is shown here:

I won't even go into the differences.

The 1929 Essex serial number begins with 928658 to 1070299 - 1st series
    1070300 to 1165674 - 2nd series.
    Hope this helps.
    Good looking Essex you have.

  • anybody know value of a car like this? I probably paid to much but could not see it rodded, 32000 miles , runs pretty good got carb off now cleaning, has a electric fuel pump instead of vacuum , but looks really old, zero rust on car and never was any patching done.  thanx
  • Value should be somewhere between six and 9 thousand depending on condition.  With that said, I expect that the price you paid was well worth it.  Not an expert on these cars but the cowl light are like the ones I have on my 28?
  • I just did a rather quick look on Google, to see what some of the asking prices were for 1929 coupes. I found nothing comparable to yours.  The '29's I found were either other body styles, or hot rodded coupes, or were in other countries.  Nothing like yours (which is to say: complete, running, in very good condition).   So, I guess it's anybody's guess as to the true value.

I will say that you have a very good specimen of a desirable body style of probably the most popular Essex ever built (only more desirable body style would be an open car).  I don't recall what you paid for it, but whatever you paid, you got something that isn't "a dime a dozen".

By the way, did you say that yours was a rumbleseat coupe, or a "trunk" coupe?
  • rumble seat car
  • Looks like a great car. A rougher looking driver was over 10k about 5 years back, also a solid car but not nearly as clean as yours from what I can see.
