Driving a 1930 Hudson around the world!!!!

Heidi Hetzer, 77, to drive from Perth to Sydney this summer as part of two-year trip

At 77 years old, successful Berlin businesswoman Heidi Hetzer does not fit the conventional mould of an adventurer.

But that has not stopped Hetzer from embarking on the journey of a lifetime, replicating the world’s first circumnavigation by automobile with her eight-cylinder 1930 Hudson classic.

No stranger to life on the road, the Berlin-based socialite has experience as a rally driver, car collector and dealer that should help her cross from Perth to Sydney this summer.

Having started her journey in Berlin on Sunday, the traveller aims to finish her trip at Brandenburg Gate in June 2016.

She will travel from Germany through Eastern Europe and Turkey, crossing Russia and China in September.

Hetzer then plans to drive through South East Asia before arriving in Perth, heading across to Sydney over the summer months before tackling New Zealand from north to south.

Transporting the car to California, she will traverse the United States then spend the second half of 2015 heading south through Mexico, Colombia, Brazil and Argentina before tackling North Africa, Spain and France on the home leg in 2016.

According to Patrik (who is not on the journey with Heidi), they got the car fixed and are continuing.

They are now headed south to Malaysia.  They had hoped to reach Australia by Christmas but since they lost several days in China, waiting for some connecting rods to arrive by mail, this may not happen on schedule.

I do hope they can resolve this situation with the mis-aligning alternator and the possible problem with the accessory drive (which may or may not be damaged; it's unclear what just happened).
