1938/39 Bodies
Hi,
I was hoping someone on the list would confirm Rick Clark's and my suspicions, that the below link would work for my 1939 112 coupe project. My car has a badly damaged roof, so I have kept my eyes open for something that would save countless hours of work. The 1938 in the ad looks to be the same body, and with my doors, correct trunk and fenders, it could be whole. I could cut up my car for the replacement lower body panels that are rusted out on it. This looks to be the perfect fit, because it is not a good candidate for a restoration. Canadian serial number 82C322. http://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/saskatoon/1938-hudson-terraplane-coupe/1038848064?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

Sure looks like it would be the ticket for what you are wanting to do.

As I recall, the 112s have a different firewall . . . the Terraplane wouldn't have the big depression in the firewall as the 112 has, to allow setting the engine back due to the shorter frame out front. The rest of the body would be same except for location of taillights and a couple of other minor differences. Need someone to confirm this.0

Park is correct. If you use the body of the 38 you would have to replace the firewall with one in your 39.
Gary, I'm happy to see that you are working to get your 112 back on the road!

It's not that hard to replace the firewall. Just drill out the spot welds, remove the firewall and weld the correct one back in.0

Thanks for the insight everyone! Good heads up on the firewall, as I wouldn't have thought of that. My main concern other than overall body size, was matching the shoulder line "raised spear" that runs front to back, with my doors and hood.0

Has anyone swapped out the dash in one of these? That would be one of the bigger "need to do" things that I can think of.

Well the car is now in my possesion and the differences are more managable than expected! The body and firewall are exactly the same. The only difference on the firewall is the hood lock mechanism for the '39 reverse opening hood. The extra length of the Hudson/Terraplane is found in the frame forward of the firewall. The rear fenders/valence are also different, but a simple swap should work. The trunk lid has different badging as well. The only big ticket difference is the dash.
