will this water pump fit my 55 308 twin h. I was looking to buy one on ebay and this one says 48 to 56 except 55 and 56 wasp and hornet. I know these don't fit small wasp motor, but I thought 55 308 or hornet was same as years before on water pump????? do I need a 55/56 specific water pump????? thanks to anyone in the know.

From memory there is a small difference in shaft stick out length between the 308 Hudson and Hash water pumps. But they are the same basic pump.0

They may have their designations mixed up. The '55 and '56 Wasp used the Jet 202 motor, but because of the extra distance to the radiator, the pumps had a longer shaft. I believe the Hash Hornet pumps are the identical to the Step-downs. If the shaft is longer it is a simple matter to press the flange further back.0

You can use the pump on single pulley apps if you press the hub down the shaft.0

With all Stepdown water pumps the shaft pulley mount sets the pulley clearance to the pump body. Before making a mount adjust met make a depth measurement on the pulley to be used. I speak from experience... not good to have a spare in the trunk that will bolt to the engine, but the pulley hits the pump when installed.0

thank you all for the info, I bought the pump!0

dang dang dang! I got the pump and when I got it it had a shorter shaft so no need to press it down. the shaft is shorter so it can't be pulled out with a puller. I thought no problem I had a spair 308 with a shallower pulley and it lines up with everything. I even got the old pump off everything cleaned up and the new pump installed. then I go to put the fan on and notice it will bump the harmonic balancer!!!!!!!!!
I don't know about trimming the fan blades. I think I may make a 1/2" spacer out of aluminum to go between the pulley and the fan.

Dale Cooper did the pump for my 55 308. Never could figure out if my water pump pulley was Hudson because it had no markings. Mine has 2 plates behind the pump were I'd guess everybody else has one? Anyway, the top bolt on the pump would be stuck in the Clifford head without that extra .090". Of the two fans I had that steeper pitched one will require a fan spacer too. Store bought/swap meet fan spacers are easy enough to come by. It's always something...
