National Carburetors / Antique Carburetors.com
Anyone deal with this place? It was recommended by a fellow AACA member who had them rebuild his 1960's Mercury carb and was delighted with the results. I actually had my carb rebuilt by Daytona, in Florida, so am not in need of a rebuild at present, but I like to pass along information on good suppliers, when I can. They don't list Hudsons but they supposedly go as far back as 1939 on their rebuilding and the price seems right ($159 for most antique carbs).
The same fellow recommended The Old Car Doctor (Jeff Dreibus) in N.C. -- he said some of his friends had used that place. Looking at their website, however, I see they're running 6 to 8 weeks turnaround time, and a 2-bbl. carb rebuild is $365 -- much more than Daytona Parts (which, I thought, did a first class job on my 2-bbl. Carter). Anyone have experience with them?
While we're at it, can anyone offer any recommendations on "our" Hudson carb rebuilders, based on your (or someone else's) personal experience? I know that some of the guys in the H-E-T do rebuilding. Nothing like word of mouth advertising.
By the way, I'm thinking in terms of complete overhaul here, with replating of parts, new parts where the old ones have broken -- that sort of thing. Not merely putting in a standard kit with just new gaskets.

Got twin carbs redone by Walt. I figured if he could keep B17s flying he could do the same for my son's Hornet. A 308 which had been seized, following a fresh rebuild, started on the third short hit of the starter. Wish I could attach the video but .MOVs don't upload.
Anyway, I am very pleased with these carbs.
