Radiator hoses

Hello everyone, as the title says, I'm looking for the upper and lower hoses for my 51 262.  The ones that are on there are very old and just a one hose fits all type.  So does anyone have the part numbers for the hoses and then hopefully napa can order them for me?

Gates 21794 , NAPA 8484   upper. Then just purchase small straight lengths for bottom.    Or NAPA 9683 upper and lower. You will have to cut the lower proper lengths. Also don't forget to use the steel elbow on the lower hose setup.

Thanks for your help.  I will call NAPA tomorrow and have them order me the hoses to go with the new fan belt they already ordered me.

Well today I called NAPA and they happened to have both hoses in stock.  I went and looked at them and the upper 8484 looked like it would work great.  The lower 9683 didn't look like it would work as good so I was going to buy a straight length but the guy said they still make and sell the one fits all that is ribbed so it will bend so I decided I would buy one of those for the bottom.  So I went back and a little trimming of the top hose they both fit and look great especially the top one. I didn't see any steel elbow for the bottom hose when I took it apart so it went back together without a steel elbow. Thanks again for your help.

Be careful of the ribbed hose on the bottom.  My 46 pickup had ribbed hoses top and bottom and the bottom one kinked.  I don't have the steel elbow either.

Thanks for the suggestion. Both old hoses where ribbed and never had a problem. That's why I wasn't too afraid of using another new one in place. But it is nice to have at least a nice new molded one for the top. It looks a lot better than the ribbed one that used to be there.

Dave Kostansek (in WTN) sells a replacement lower hose just like stock (steel elbow and two straight sections of hose) for a very reasonable price.

The bottom hose needs some type of steel insert, either spring type or length of pipe. If not it is prone to collapse. No problem if ribbed one has the steel spring inside.

Hmmm. Thanks for the suggestion. I guess I will have to find a spring for it or contact Dave for the original type. The old ribbed one had no spring in it and I haven't had a issue with that one for the first four years owning it but it doesn't mean it won't start to act up now. Thanks for the input.

Ok. Today I ordered a original style lower hose from Dave along with a bunch of other parts that I figured I would get. Thanks again for everyone's help.

One future thought, if no specific hose is available, you can pull the correct diameter spring from another hose and insert it in the ribbed hose of your choice. Good luck!

I ordered a spring from McMaster Carr and cut to fit the lower hose for the 37.
Dave has very fair pricing on items I've purchased, good to deal with.
