1934 to 1954 clutch size

I need help I have a box with a clutch disk in it the box says 1934 to 1954 there is a number on a piece of tape that says 10002423 I do not know what that means the disc is 9 3/4 across the face of the disc can anyone tell me if this will work in an  eight cylinder car I sold this on e bay under auction number 191488568015 now the person told me that this will not work in his car he says he needs a 10 inch disc I would like to know what this will work in thanks for any help Tom.

     If this is a Hudson disk, it has corks in it, not the usual linings that most clutches have.  If it has corks, how many corks does it have?  That will determine what it fits.

Tom,

     I took a look at your ebay listing.  It has the right number of corks (108) to be a 10 inch Hudson clutch disk.  However, all the Hudson disks I have seen are spring-centered - there are eight springs visible in the hub.  

     Perhaps this is a disk for an older Hudson, since it appears to have a solid center.  Geoff Clark could say whether this is correct, since he has a great deal of experience with Hudson products from the 1920s.

     I couldn't find a disk part number containing 2423 in part number books for 1929-1934, and 1940-1942 that I have.  

     I suggest asking the buyer to send you a picture of his old disk if he still has it.

This is an after-market  clutch supplied by a different manufacturer.  Instead of  the eight coil springs the center has a heavy torsion spring.  It will fit all Hudson 8 1934-52, and all Step-downs with 262 or 308, and 232 with o/d.  Obvioulsy the part number is the manufacturer's number, not the Hudson catalog number.

Geoff, I've seen photos of those after market clutch plates and scratched my head that there was no coil springs. How successful was the torsion spring idea?

 I've never had one, but have seen used ones.  They obviously work okay.
