My dad was a Hudson Dealer from 1927 till 1957
I remember in 1954 we had a recall on all Hornets, they put 7x cams in them and the customers complained they were too noisy and not smooth.
I spoke to Smokey Yunick once in 1962, and he said his Hornets put out a honest 250 hp, he still had a few engines laying around he would have sold me.He said he put steel glue in the head to build up the compression...the 7x kit had studs with nuts to screw into the block, to cut down on blown head gaskets.
I hate to admit it but the fastest Hornet I ever had was a 55 Hash, it had 210 hp from the factory and a 4:11 rear, you had to turn them up to get them going. In 54 they were clearing out the old model, and we had one come through with a 7x exhaust, Porcelin header.
I raced a 51 but broke rf spindles and axles, and wrecked the car..I sure did love them.
