They are still out there.  These are some pictures of a 1948 Commodore coupe six that I acquired yesterday.  The car has been sitting in a shed since 1979 on blocks.  The story goes that the old guy that had it only used it to tow his caravan at Christmas times then returned it to its garage and put it on blocks.  He last drove the car in 1979 . It appears that the car only has 79000 miles on it and is in good order given its age.  The seats still have the factory vinyl covers over the cloth upholstery.  Unfortunately there is some rodent damage.

LHD-RHD ? Six or eight? Keep the pics coming. Are those mechanical turn signals in the fenders behind the door?

Hi Super Dave.  As I said in my original comment it is a six.  Its Right drive in other words the steering wheel is on the correct side.  It appears to be a mechanical indicator but is only on the right side so I am not sure what that is all about yet.  I have been too busy cleaning all the rodent crap from it.

Just to bring up another detail.  The only thing that I am aware of that is different on the exterior of the 48-49 is the stainless trim around the door window (front on a sedan). The 49 is joined in the center of the top side. the 48 is joined near the front. Otherwise you would have to check the serial number on the pillar!. Of course that applies to US models. I wonder where your trim is joined? Just curious..

491 lists as a 1949 Hudson Super Six

Yes, that makes it a '49, which  the late Graeme Brown had identified it as.

Questions breed questions..   Were these RHD cars assembled down under or in the states? Looking at my records, I had a 49  4door that was sold new in Oklahoma city 3,280 cars later. I also have a 49 two door that was built 92,871 later. Was titled in California but unknown where it was sold originally.... ? Did they make that many Supers?     I wonder how the serial numbers related to LHD and RHD ? Maybe a block of numbers reserved for exports?

My understanding is that this car was converted to Right hand drive very early in its life.  It was imported by it first owner from Chicago  but there were quite a few of these cars made for the right hand market and shipped from the States to places like South Africa NewZealand etc.  I'm not sure how many coupes were made although I do know of one other 8 cylinder model in NZ which is right drive.
