OK, so my mechanic has a question about the clutch on my Hudson. He
wants to know if he can put in a regular clutch disk instead of a cork
one.
Thanks,

It depends what you mean by regular clutch disc. Are you thinking of a dry clutch or are you thinking of modern oil facings rather than the corks? If a dry clutch, the answer is yes but it won't work very well.If modern oil facings, the answer is yes, do a search on here for kevlar.0

The short answer is .. NO ! The cork/wet clutch is far superior to a dry clutch. Also, the flywheel is much thinner than a dry clutch and in all likelihood will warp if a dry clutch is used. There are at least two sources of remanufactured Hudson clutches within the club. WRP is one of them. . A properly installed Hudson wet clutch is pleasure to use. Keep it original and you will be satisfied.0

A dry clutch used in the original flywheel and pressure plate will eventually self-destruct.0

Thanks for the help, guys!

Was told that I'd need a new gasket; any ideas?

Are you asking for ideas on where to find one, or ideas on whether to buy one?
If you want one, Dale Cooper or Wildrick Restoration can fix you up.

Easy enough to DIY if you can't readily buy a new one. Use 1/32" or .8mm paper.0 -
Nobody seems to have one so I'll need to make one. Where can I find the material. Also, If I can't find .30, can I use three .10?

Also, I'm told there is fluid needed. How much do I need and where can I get some. Also, anything else I need to tell my mechanic?

Suggest copying the information needed from your owner manual. If you don't have one (you should)This info is available at the HET club website. Look under manuals, for the era you have. 30-33 Hudson are the same. Main heading, LIBRARY.Have you tried NAPA or PARTS + maybe even Auto Zone or Advance auto.??Fred0

Use oil gasket paper. 1/32" or .030" or .8mm is a standard thickness and won't be hard to find, avoid multiple thinner gaskets. Auto stores may or may not have the width of paper that you need, but industrial suppliers or agricultural suppliers will.Buy a set of cheap hollow punches to cut the bolt holes, use a sharp blade to cut the inside and outside. For clutch fluid you can use the original Hudsonite blend, or auto trans fluid works just as well, maybe even better. Huddy42 may be along soon to say which type of ATF to use.0

Dexron 11 or 111 is the ONLY brand to use. 1/3 pint ....available from any spare parts store.
DO NOT USE ANY PRODUCED FOR FORD. Their product boils at a lower temperature and causes slipping.
Have been using this product in my Hudson's for 50 years with no ill effect.0 -
Thanks, Huddy42!

If you like to stick with old recipes, here's one a retired Hudson mechanic gave me 50 years ago:One third gear oil,One third #30 motor oil,One third kerosene, and just a dash of Marvel Mystery oil!0

Making a gasket is easy. Use the correct thickness of paper. Get one that will cover the entire clutch housing. get on Utube and watch videos. An old ballpeen hammer some light tapping and you are done. I made one for by 22 Essex as Dave did not have one cut. if you have a sharp housing you don't even the punches if you take your time. Because the clutch fits into the weird flywheel on the 22 I use the flywheel side and the casket cut itself with some lite tapping.
