I notice that the 49 Hudson that I recently acquired has an alloy head,  I cant find any info on this do members know if this was a factory high compression option.

    Okay thanks for that.

Does anyone know what the horsepower difference was between the alloy head and the cast Iron head

The Aluminum head on a 254 increased HP from 128 to 138.

I don't have the figures for 1949, but the 1953-'54 supplement gives 140 h.p for the 7:1 cast rion head and 149 h.p. with the alloy 7.5:1 head.   In 1949 the compression was either 6.7 or 7.2, so I guess you could allow an extra 9 or 10 h.p., but I don't know how you would actually count the horses when you are driving!

Hmmmm! I will give that some thought.

Or, you could count the horses' legs and divide by 4
