opening the hood

Hi all  my friend has a 1953 Hornet and has not opened the hood for several years and says he does not want to break the hood cable. He tried pulling the cable but seems seized. Is there a way to open the hood other than pulling the hood cable.  Thanks  Hudsonly  Ray

Have someone push down on the hood as hard as they can {without denting !!}; mashing the 3 rubber supports. Then reach up between the top grill bar and 2nd bar on the drivers side of the car and see if you can grab the cable and pull on it to see if you can move the 'whole' cable to pull the hood clamp back.  That might work.  Also BEFORE doing that get some good penetrating spray and saturate the latch mech. from inside the grill.

Ray,

You can use a long screwdriver from the bottom side of the latch mechanism to open the latch.  Look for a small spring.  With the long screwdriver push on the tab where the spring is attached.  That should do it.
