Most were plastic.  Apparently, only the first couple hundred or so used the glass.  The bezels and stamped plates are very nearly impossible to find.

Glass lenses, though are still fairly available.  The dealers must have stocked them by the dozens.  I have probably half-a-dozen sets "just in case".  It's kind of like the conspiracy-theorist who has to buy Catcher In the Rye.  Every time I see some at a swap meet, I've got to buy them.

Many years ago I bought the remaining stock of parts from a Hudson garage and service in Virginia (service station?). The lady that owned it closed the Hudson affiliation in 1952 and focused on farm machinery, She told me that Hudson dictated a minimum inventory to qualify as well as have at least one demonstrator car in inventory. So they had to purchase stuff that would never sell.  Her last car was a 51 Hornet sedan.. upside down in the dump behind the shop. Well worn! Maybe someone with more first hand knowledge of this policy can chime in? (Jerry?)

I'd be interested in Jerry's comments about that.

There are Hudson Sales bulletins to dealers noting that "Accessory items" we're being offered and that the dealer should ...expect trunk shipped items... In other words the stuff was put into
the cars' trunks and the dealers were on the hook to pay! Can you imagine trying to sell a customer whose occupation was farming on a exterior spare tire inflator!?!

Is the surround the same for both plastic and glass?

When I had my shop the amount of discount I received on parts from suppliers depended on the package deal for parts. Sometimes it would not be profitable to deal with certain companies because of the amount of unsellable parts required to buy the package. Don't think that has changed much in the past 100 years. Think it is called passing the buck or unloading slow moving inventory.
