Hi from the UK, I've been a collector and user of american cars for a few years now.
A gentleman knocked on my door the other day after seeing a couple of Chevrolets
that we own and asked if I'd like to make an offer on his 1938 Hudson 8 Country so
I went and visited the old girl (Car that is)
and found a beauty this guy must love the car as it was in very good order and sounded
beautiful but I would be interested in hearing good points and bad points before I make
my decision

regards Pat

    Pat,

Welcome aboard! Whereabouts are you located?

I'm based in the UK as well so tell me more about this 1938 Hudson 8 Country as well.Good points ; buy it. Bad points ; you'd be mad not to buy it :)

They are lovely cars and you'll join a unique band of Hudson owners worldwide of course

Good to have you onboard.  I'm sure you'll find a wealth of information here. Please be sure to post photos of your Hornet, and keep us informed of your restoration work - we love to see 'work in progress'.

Members come for the cars, and stick around because of the great folks there!

We hope you enjoy your time here at the Hudson Essex Terraplane 'Open Forum'

  • G'day Hog1200,

I've got a 1936 for 2 years now. The only bad points are the diff ratio may be too low to drive it on the freeway at modern speeds - so check the diff is low or normal(modern) and make a decision based on if you're happy driving at less than 50 mph . The other is that because they were designed for left hand driving, cars with right hand driving have little space to service the steering mechanicals and the distributer is in a really stupid position blocked by the steering column. We usually buy an additional distributer as a spare as its nearly impossible to work or adjust it whilst on the motor. Also the clutch is cork and must have fluid to maintain the cork - The clutch is quite remarkable and great if ok however you need to check that its smooth and not grabbing or falling apart. The 1930's cars are lovely Art Deco and I always love either driving mine around for fun or just playing with it in the garage - lastly check if its 6 volt positive earth - its quite different to use compared to 12 volt negative - hope you buy it cheers Ken
