Generator charge light

With a new armature installed in my 52 Hornet, I set off on a road trip, after about 200 miles or so the charge light would come on at an idle,...touch the throttle and it goes out. A phone call to the shop that supplied and installed the armature c/w voltage regulator and they said the issue is rpm related.Their suggestion was to increase the idle speed.

I don't have a tach but I am pretty confident the idle speed is about 600 rpm. In any case the issue comes and goes, at times I can slow the engine down to near stalling speed by slipping the clutch, before the light comes on,....so I am not totaly confident that rpm is the only issue?

even if the light is out , it's charging at a very low output at idle.

That's why the switch was made to alternators.

You are worrying needlessly. So long as the light goes out when you speed up you have nothing to worry about.
You could fiddle with the  spring tension on the cut-out coil, and check the closing voltage, but it's really not worth the effort.   For your own peace of mind you can check that the voltage at the armature terminal  is 7.25 volts, with the engine revving and the lights on, but otherwise, don;t worry.
