Brake Fluid Type to use?

Just finishing a restoration of a 47 Hudson pickup. Converted the Master Cly to a Dual and everything else is new. What's everyone's thoughts of what type of brake fluid to put in. Dot3 or Dot4? Silicone Type Dot5? I Have mixed thoughts.

dot 5 silicone based does not attract water, makes parts last longer, but has inferior compressability compard to dot 4 petroleum based fluid. dot 4 better braking, dot 5 longer lasting parts

I have had dot 5 in my C8 for 10 years and still going strong.  No problems with braking either.

Ditto all DOT5 Comments. You may find yourself trying to get that "hard" pedal feel by repeated bleeding but it won't get hard (another downside of getting old). Kudos on the split/tandem conversion. Very smart.

I tried Dot 5 in a few vehicles.  Was never happy with the pedal feel.   I have used Dot 3 in all vehicles since.

We have been conditioned to be suspicious of a less-than-hard pedal feel, and for good reason, but the upsides of DOT 5 are still worth it to me. I did, however, switch to the 5.1 when it came time to change the fluid in our '47. It is claimed to exhibit many of the advantages of the silicone based fluid but is still a glycol fluid, yielding the familiar hard feel. .
