35 tail light lens removal

I'm trying to remove the lens from this 35 tail light, it obviously goes something like press the lens in against the spring clips and remove the retaining ring.

How to remove the retaining ring without damaging it is what eludes me at the moment. Any thoughts on technique?

I guess they are rarer than rocking horse poo, but I'm going to need a retaining ring for the other housing. Anyone have spares?

I think you push in on it and slide it down into housing. Then pry out the retainer , push in again

to get it in position to pull it out the front. It's been 35 years since I've done one , so wait for confirmation ,

    Or contradiction.

Soak ring long and well with your best rust penetrant.  Keep working any bit of movement until you can get even more movement. Then do as above.

Out of curiosity, should the 34/5 8s have a tail light lens that says Hudson 8?

Out of curiosity, what years does straight 'Hudson' tail light lens relate to?

Phil, as we know Hudson used what ever they had left over at the time, so nothing is as far as I know  right or not.

Look at some of the U.S models to out Aussie models, 1939 in the U.S. using 1938 tail lights, bubble back to flat back boots etc etc Many differences over the years.

I have often wondered why our Aussie 1946 Hudson's had the starter button on the passenger side of the dash and the light switch next to the ignition starter key.
